EVRY- 8 June 2009 – Novagali Pharma, a French pharmaceutical company specialized in ophthalmology, announces today having received the ”health award” Grand Prix de l’Innovation from Siemens. This innovation price reward boldness and innovation of industrial and health SMEs. The jury selection was made on the investment and R&D programs, the intellectual property, the number of partnerships, and the impact in terms of productivity, competitiveness, environmental preservation and improvement for customers.
The jury awarded Novagali for the development of Novasorb®, its cationic emulsion technology platform from which benefits Cationorm®, the first product marketed by the company and prescribed by ophthalmologists, and other products in preclinical or clinical trials for the treatment of dry eye, glaucoma and allergy. Novasorb® increases the absorption of drugs in ocular tissues and their effectiveness by electrostatic attraction between the positive charges of the therapeutic emulsion and the negative charges of cornea and conjunctiva cells: ocular surface residence time is increased and allows reaching sufficient therapeutic levels. Patients benefits from a decreased number of instillations, and improved treatment compliance.
In March 2009 Frost & Sullivan recognized Novagali Pharma with the 2009 North American Frost & Sullivan Award for Industry Innovation & Advancement of the Year, for its two proprietary emulsion technology platforms, Novasorb® and Eyeject®.
