Nova21027
Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and is estimated to affect about 70 million patients worldwide less than a half being diagnosed.
Glaucoma is a disorder associated with an elevated pressure in the eye and is characterized by the damage of the optic nerve. It leads to visual loss, initially peripheral, but potentially blinding if relentlessly progressive.
Primary open angle glaucoma, which accounts for 60-70% of glaucoma cases, refers to eyes that develop elevated intraocular pressure and resultant damage to the optic nerve due to decreased out flow of fluid from the eye. Most people do not usually experience symptoms until their vision is compromised and extensive damage to the optic nerve has been done.
Therapeutic approaches in open-angle glaucoma are focused on lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) by pharmacological means such as prostaglandin agonists, currently the most widely prescribed drugs.
Nova21027 is a next generation glaucoma treatment, which is preservative-free. Current glaucoma products include preservatives which lead to side effects associated with chronic exposure. Nova21027 is a preservative-free product which has demonstrated in-vivo its improved safety compared with existing preservative-containing products. It shall provide patients with an optimally efficacious and safe method of decreasing IOP.
